I learned a lot about the basics of iMovie and what the program can do. A person can use iMovie by dragging and dropping images and videos. With iMovie you can speed up and slow down footage making the website professional.

I already knew that iMovie had themes that have titles and transitions. The website did explain this early on in the article.

I learned that you can record narration directly on the application, which I didn't know before. This piece of information will help me later on because I have to narrate my movie.

I'm concerned my movie might look basic and poorly done. Also I am worried about incorporating pictures with the video.

Nothing really, but I am confident that I now know how to use iMovie. Hopefully I can figure out the rest of my project soon.

My Opinions Story

  Recently, a bill to regulate Uber, Lyft, and similar transportation services was proposed. These services have lately been very popular. According to KUT.org in Austin Texas there have been more than 2.5 million rides from these services since June of 2014. The number of rides in the area has likely only gone up. As these transportation services grow bigger, they should require background checks and do everything they can to keep their passengers safe.

  For most Jobs, background checks are required. One of the reasons why services like Uber/Lyft are so popular and successful is because the companies don't have to go through local regulations. Why should Uber and Lyft services be an exception? Other ground transportation drivers like bus, taxi, and limo drivers, competitors of Uber are fingerprinted. It would only be fair for Uber and Lyft to go through with these necessary safety regulations to generate fair competition and help protect the people.

  Another important reason why I think a bill to regulate transportation services like Uber is necessary is that regulations would help prevent crimes related to ride-hailing drivers. From Pewtrusts.org on November 24, 2015, Attorneys found that just that summer twenty five uber drivers in the two cities of San Francisco and Los Angeles, had criminal records. Regulations would help prevent criminals from being drivers. And decrease the new's reports that keep surfacing of crimes committed by ride-hailing drivers.

  Someone against the idea of a regulation of Uber/Lyft could point out that regulations would not be necessary or fair, because the drivers of these services are not actual employees. It is true Uber drivers are not technically real employees, but Uber is still a growing business that should value their customer's safety.

  Since the start of these transportation services, there has been a series of sexual assault and harassment cases involving Uber and Lyft. Sexual assault and harassment has been an issue in all of the ride-sharing industry, but there is a higher degree of accountability with Taxi drivers, because of their background checks. This bill could help change Uber's process for hiring drivers. Which is currently dangerously negligent.

  A reason why many people are opposed too background checks on Uber/Lyft, is because they think it will cause people to lose their jobs and to not want to work for Uber/Lyft. Some say regulations would defeat the purpose of Uber: a fast ride. But regulations would not destroy Uber's concept, it would just make the business safer for all. Criminals would be discouraged to work for Uber/Lyft because of this initiative. 

 Currently, drivers of services of Uber/Lyft use their own cars that may not have commercial licenses. They also may not have insurance policies that would fully cover anyone that could be injured in accidents. Regulations should be required to ensure the passenger's safety.

  Uber, Lyft, and similar transportation services must improve their safety by having background checks. Safety is important and necessary because millions of people use Uber and Lyft. I think regulations would improve the lives of all involved and better the world.

Earthquake story

An earthquake rocked the San Francisco Bay area Monday morning. The quake struck at 8:12 a.m. PDT.  A building housing McHenry's Auto Supply at at 2342 Plum st. partially collapsed, killing two people and injuring six others.
"Names of the dead are being withheld pending notifications of families," Jennifer Vu, a public information officer from the Hayward Fire Department, comments.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, was under the Hayward Hills. The earthquake occurred on the Hayward Fault, which runs under the hills.
"The quake was a strong one," scientist from the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo park, Penny Gertz said, " People as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Redding felt the quake."

Three of the six people injured were hurt seriously enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General hospital.
"No other serious injuries have been reported," Vu mentions.

Hayward resident Mike Beamer, whose apartment is across the street from McHenry's said he felt a rolling motion that lasted for about 30 seconds, with a big jolt coming in the middle.
" I was eating my breakfast when the room started rolling. I dove under the table just as I heard the explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. Thats when the screaming started across the street," Beamer recalls.

Hayward fire fighters used ropes to stabilize the auto supply shop, conducting a search of the building and capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the site.
"Twenty-one fire personnel, 12 police and five American Red Cross workers responded to the building collapse with some arriving within four minutes of the quake," Vu reports.

Huntington story

Living in Barstow California, 53 year old Janice Jone's dog knocked her gun off a carseat. The weapon discharged when it hit the floor. This all happened around 10 p.m on a Wednesday according to California Highway Patrol press liaison Tammy Rye.

Jones was eating pork chops in the back of her motor home, which was parked on Beach Boulevard near Highway 1, when the events happened. When the weapon discharged and hit the floor, the bullet passed through Jone's leg and through the side of the vehicle. 

" It could have been worse," Rye comments. "The bullet hit two inches from the gas tank." 

Jones was cited for expired plates and the county's district attorney's office was considering whether to charge her in relation to the gun accident.

" Jones doesn't have a permit for the gun," Rye mentions.

Jones was transported to Huntington Beach Hospital via ambulance and later was transported to Irvine Medical Center

"Jones was shot in the right leg around ten at night," reported Rye. This was also confirmed by Jim Washington, a spokesman for Huntington Beach Hospital.

Jone's dog, a Pomeranian named Tombo, was placed in the care of the Huntington Beach Animal Control officers. 

"The dog seemed to be malnourished," recorded Janet Ngo, one of the animal control officers. 

The dog also had fresh cigarette burns on its forehead. Ngo indicated that her office would explore filing animal abuse charges against Jones. 

" It could have done with a little less abuse and a few more of those pork chops," Ngo said.

 On March 31,2016, Jonah Warner was interviewed for being student of the month at bowie high school. Twenty questions were asked to help better understand the student of the month. Jonah eagerly talked about himself and information about the award. Jonah won this honor because of his excellent grades and study habits.

   One of the reasons why junior Jonah Warner was awarded student of the month is because of his stellar grades. 

"Jonah is a fantastic student who continues to ace all of his tests," U.S history teacher Mr. Ryan raves.

  Many students at Bowie find studying particularly difficult. Warner keeps up with his grades by constantly studying.                       

"To study hard you must stare at the material for a long time,"  Warner states, explaining his study habits. 

 What motivates Warner to be successful is his knowledge that he will be successful. He feels he deserves this award for all of his hard work and studying.

"Not many guys get nominated for this award," admits school administrator Mack.

 Another reason why Warner feels like he won this award is because of his friend group, which has always been supporting Warner. 

 "Jonah is the best at what he does, Studying, and I want to be there for him. I see Jonah as an energetic dude that is determined to be a young Bill Gates," Joe, a close friend of Warner's comments.

When choosing someone for student of the month at Bowie high school, teachers and administrators join together to pick a well-rounded student that has excelled academically and socially. 

 "I knew I was going to win this award because I am the smartest," Warner says after winning this award.

 Previous winners of this honor have gone and done great things. Teachers expect Warner to be excepted into a prestigious college and change the world for the better. 

"I plan to be the smartest person in the world and graduate from Bowie and eventually Texas University," Warner mentions.

 This year, according to Warner's parents he has been constantly studying. But Warner has more hobbies then just studying.

"I like BMX, motocross, going outdoors, and going to Housepark downtown," Warner explains excitedly.

 In all of Warner's classes his teachers have been impressed by his work.

"He seems to have no weaknesses. Just strengths. One of his strengths seems to be studying," Warner's pleased biology teacher comments. 

 Warner was recently spotted biking at Housepark. According to Warner's friends and family members it is not rare for him to be biking.

"Jonah has always wanted to be a professional biker. His determination has helped him achieve this award and will hopefully help him become a professional biker,"  Linda, the mother of Warner confides. 

  Warner enjoys all of his classes because he thrives in them all. 

"Lunch would have to be my favorite class. Or my off period because I can study them," Warner says.

  Completing homework is very important for a student to be able to succeed like Warner.

"Jonah has always said to himself 'do your homework'," a fan of Warner shares.

After achieving his new title as student of the month, Warner feels relived and grateful.

" Winning this feels great, takes a big weight off my shoulders," Warner sighs.
